Hi all! I’ve had some feedback lately about events I include in Townie.
I ADORE Oneonta and the community here and want to do right by it. Each week, I spend time scanning social media and event calendars to curate my top picks for things to do in the area.
If I get something wrong—details or language—I want to know about it so I can correct it and do better in the future, like when a helpful reader emailed me about language I updated with their input.
It is SUPER helpful when you email me full descriptions of your events to townieny@gmail.com. When I have this information, it is way easier for me to include it in Townie.
My criteria for top events are usually things that are one-off special events that are unique, different, and/or something I think is cool. Sometimes I include classes and sometimes I talk about food I like, but for the most part, I include events. Townie is a hobby I do for fun, and I don’t guarantee placement in the newsletter.
For folks who want guaranteed inclusion in three editions of Townie, I’ve created a sponsorship subscription. Email me at townieny@gmail.com for more information!
Not including events isn’t personal, there are a range of reasons why your event wasn’t included:
I didn’t know about it.
Someone mentioned it but didn’t send me an email with information or a press release and I forgot about it.
There wasn’t an online event for me to find when I happened to be searching on social media and event calendars.
I already found 8-20 events to feature and stopped searching for additional events.
I already found 8-20 events to feature and saw a cool graphic for an event, but didn’t have time to research the event and write a full description.
I was finishing an issue while chugging coffee right before I had to teach three classes at the college and didn’t have time to do a final scan of worthwhile events in the area.
Time. A limited resource.

How to have a better chance and/or guarantee your event is included:
Send an email to townieny@gmail.com with a full description of your event that I can easily copy and paste. (Ex. in the body of an email or in a Word doc)
Please don’t send me a jpeg of a flyer from which I have to transcribe the information—help me help you by typing out the information and sending me a full written description via email (townieny@gmail.com), Instagram or Facebook. I’m Townieny on all.
Tag TownieNY on Instagram or Facebook to make it easy for me to share your stories and events on social media.
Sponsor an edition of Townie! Include your logo and the message you want to share. Townie is exclusively supported by paid subscriptions and sponsors. I would love your support! Email me more for information.
Don’t have time to write a detailed, full description of your event? Hire me to write one for you! I can put together a description of your event that includes the important pieces people are looking for like who’s involved/featured, what’s included in the ticket price, background information of the presenter/organizing group, and anything else people might want to know. Email me more for information.
Townie Behind Townie
This is me in my natural habitat, Adaline’s Ice Cream.
Hi, I’m Cassandra Miller. I moved back to Oneonta full time in the summer, when I left a full-time salaried job to jump into contract work as my main source of income. I love swooping into projects to help them be as successful as possible by offering marketing, communications, strategic planning, and project management services.
Townie is a super fun project I’ve been putting together weekly since October 2023. I love hearing that people are reading it and using it to find things to do in the area. I especially love when people send me information about their events for me to help spread the word in the newsletter and/or on social media.
A typical day for me could be teaching three classes at SUNY Oneonta; working on a grant application to fund community projects; writing a proposal for a potential client; meeting with collaborators and/or working on active contracts at Latte Lounge, Wakeman Coffee, or Social Eats; putting together Townie; rehearsing for a community theater production; and maintaining close relationships with outings to places like Dazzo’s and Roots and innings to my couch.
